The new caretaker arrives due to Frederic Requena’s retirement

Laura Montoro, the center’s new caretaker, was born in Figueras and actually lives in Castelló d’Empúries. She has taken throughout her life a training course in tourism management and secretarial and has spent her whole life in tourism so far.
-How do you feel after getting this job?
I’m elated because I know it’s a job that is difficult to get into. I’ve been working here for two months now, and at the moment I’m very pleased to be here.
-What’s the best thing about having this job?
I have my kids here at school and I have the same timetable as them so this is great. I love it because I can spend more time with them and I’m close to them, too. This job also implies having weekends off and It’s awesome.
-Do you think it is very hard work?
No, it’s not hard but sometimes I have a lot of work accumulated, such as office tasks, photocopies, teachers who come to ask me for tasks to do, parents that come to ask about objects that their children have lost, parents who come to take away their children because they are sick, attending phone calls, but it’s not hard. I like being busy.
– Do you think this job takes you too many hours?
No, I just work the hours that I was required to do when I sign the contract.
-What are the various tasks involved in this job?
Office tasks, printing the teachers’ tasks, attending parents when they come to pick up their children, attending parents who come to look for lost objects or because they have tutoring with a teacher, answering and making phone calls. These are some oft he duties that Inusually have to do in my day-to-day.
-How would you like to be referred to? For example, the last person who was in that place, was called by everyone as Requena.
Laura is fine for me. I like my name and everybody who knows me uses my real name.
– Do you think that a lot of paper is wasted in this school?
The school is huge and there are many students, so the use of paper is basic. Personally, I think teachers try to use the minimum necessary.
-Did you have to do an internship before starting this job?
I just had to go through some tests.
-What did you have to study for the job?
Well, I did a training course in tourism management and secretarial work. I have spent my whole life in tourism so far, but they didn’t ask me for basic studies and either of these courses.
-Did you have to do an interview to get the job?
Yes, I had to do an interview and go through a process before they told me I had been accepted.
-Is it a stressful or relaxing job?
Well, it depends, but generally, I would say that it is a very enjoyable and easy-to-wear job.
